TOWN TECHNOLOGY IS DEACTIVATED AT THE MOMENT

The entire system will be revised in the future.

Fractured is heavily based around player crafting. Equipment is only obtainable through crafting and trading with other players. Crafting stations are required to craft an advanced item, and they can be used after being unlocked by a player in a city. Every continent is divided into regions, and each region can have a city founded in it.

If a region has an unclaimed city, a group of players can form a settler group of 20 players to claim it. Once the city is founded, it can start increasing in ranks (through gold and food) which will allow it to unlock new technologies in the tech tree. Some of these technologies will unlock new crafting stations and forges (which are used to produce the materials used in advanced crafting, like smelters and tanning tubes). Once a city unlock a technology, that technology will become available for all the plots in the region.

Crafting Cost

To increase the quality of your crafts, you need to improve your Mastery in it and to craft using the technologies of a city (see below). To access the technologies of a city you must use one of the crafting stations of that city. Alternatively if you own a plot in that region you just need to use a crafting station in your house. Every time you use a crafting station, your crafts will incur in a gold cost. The amount of gold required as a minimum is:

  • armor tier 1: 100 (x2 for the chest)
  • armor tier 2: 300 (x2 for the chest)
  • weapon tier 1: 50 (x1.5 if 2-handed)
  • weapon tier 2: 400 (x1.5 if 2-handed)
  • shield tier 1: 50
  • shield tier 2: 400

This gold is simply sinked, it doesn't go to the city, representing the consumables that go in the craft. On top of this, the governor of the region can apply a tax to it. This tax is equal to a percentage of the base gold cost and goes into the city coffers:

Governor Tax Level Additional Gold Cost
None 0%
Low 25%
Medium 50%
High 75%
Very High 100%

These is no avoiding the gold costs associated to crafting, they are applied even if you craft from your house.
Only the primitive items crafted from your inventory will have no gold cost, but those will always be of Poor quality.

Metalworking may very well be the most valuable branch of crafting - and for good reasons! This research is a starting point, unlocking the Blacksmith shop plus the Smeltery and Forge blueprints.

Advanced Smelting Alloy Making
This research unlocks the Advanced Smeltery blueprint, which allows smelting two ores at the same time and the creation of alloys.

While using basic metals may be acceptable for a territory that seldom engages in the art of metalworking, alloys hold some of the most powerful properties for weapon and armor crafting.

This research allows players using the forges of the city to create alloy ingots.
